Walking Out In Tears (Day 147 of 365)

Thursday, April 15th, 2010

Jorden’s Annual IEP (Individualized Education Program) was held this morning at 7:30. Due to my work schedule it is important that whenever I have meetings in regards to my own children that they are scheduled as earliest as possible. These meetings are extremely important because they review important facts of the individual child of the past year such as: present academic and/or cognitive levels, progress made, concerns of the parents, goals & objectives for the next year, & the accommodations that need to be made in order to assist that student with achieving his/her goals & objectives.  In the past these meetings have shown to be stressful and challenging for me. I think partly because I am a Special Education Teacher myself and I have expectations on what should and could be done for each of my children. Erin’s IEP had already been held and went well. Taylor’s IEP was ended before it ever started, therefore I was a little reluctant when entering Jorden’s meeting. I usually take another person with me for support, advice, and mostly another ear. These meetings can be overwhelming. However, this morning I was unable to take anyone else with me.

13 & 18? (Day 145 of 365)

Tuesday, April 13th, 2010

I had a huge realization today…I was thinking about what I should get the twins for their Birthdays. They will be turning 13 years of age on the 30th of this month. Yes…I know! 13!!!! We will be “officially” entering the teen years! I am currently in my last days of Pre-Teen Syndrome. I’ve heard it doesn’t get better…Ha!  My theory is…if I can handle what I have already…I can conquer anything. It is not the teenage years that scare me…its that the years keep passing and I the time that I have left to prepare them for adulthood continues to be less and less.

About a couple of months ago I was randomly searching YouTube on information about Cerebral Palsy. I found home videos from a couple with a son who has been diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy. Nate & Renee Charlan are the proud parents of Zack, who is 3. The Charlan’s have teamed up with a T.V production company, a web developer, & Exceptional Family Magazine to provide a weekly online T.V show that will provide various real life stories of families with children with special needs. What a great resource for families!! I invite you to check out the Exceptional Family website and become a member. Just imagine the families it will help! Read More

I was going to come up with some awesome and unique April Fools Day joke..but I couldn’t think of one good enough to pull off! I will say that 17 years ago…Taylor was supposed to be born on this day. She decided to April Fools me 3 1/2 months early and was born on December 21st. I decided I was due that year for NO April Fools jokes! It turned out to be no joke but a humungous blessing!
