The Special Glasses (Day 173 of 365)

Wednesday, May 12th, 2010

As I was getting ready this morning it crossed my mind AGAIN that Taylor will be entering her last year of High School and Jorden & Erin will be entering their last year in middle school. Wow! It’s really happening…..they are growing up! If there ever was a time that my children should be filmed it should be the next year. I have so many questions about the future and feel that I will be entering a whole new territory. Next year, Taylor will become an adult and will be graduating from High School. This is why I often discuss her education more than the other two, since we are entering such an important milestone. Even the thought of this brings tears to my eyes. She is so small, and so immature, yet such an important presence in this World that I want to make sure that she is given the best possible chance to live a life full of joy, love, independence, and self-worth.

John Michael Stuart (Day 157 of 365)

Sunday, April 25th 2010

Yesterday the kiddos went to the monthly event at Starlight Foundation. I was unable to go with them, because I had already planned on going to a Clothing Exchange Party at my friend Melody’s house. I love going to the Starlight Foundation events because every time I do, I meet another person that I believe is amazing. Did you know that there are many amazing people in this world that have amazing stories? If I had a wish, I wish I could travel around the country this summer while the kids are visiting their Dad and interview each person and tell there story. Hmmm….maybe I will just do that!

I Need Your Help!..(Day 153 of 365)

Wednesday, April 21st, 2010

You know I have to be honest…lately it has been a real challenge to write a daily blog entry. I am not sure why…I just catch myself waiting longer and longer to sit down to write. AND when I do…I don’t know what to say, and believe me…I have PLENTY to say…I just don’t know where to begin. You would think it would come easy for me. Especially, since a lot goes on in my day. The first alarm goes off every morning at 5:15 am…and 3 hits of the snooze button later…I am up and at it for the day! AND my alarm is set roughly around 11:30pm for the next day. So, one would naturally think that I have a lot going on in between those times…AND one would be right! I do.. I have too much. In fact, I think after I admit this next sentence I will quickly be getting “The I Told You So!!!” call from my Mom. So, here goes it! I have over committed. I am doing too much, and some of the stuff I am doing…I can honestly look at and say “What is the purpose of that?” I have so much going on with the kids that I need to finish…such as picking up their glasses (they called me today), meeting with an advocate in regards to Tay’s IEP, getting Jordy back in Karate, getting SSI squared away, figuring out if Erin needs surgery this summer for her legs, getting my breaks fixed on my car, getting my kiddos to an Orthodontist/Dentist that receives medicaid. I think I just made a dent in my TO DO list.

Social Security Madness (Day 151 of 365)

Monday, April 19th, 2010

Frustration has set in…I just got a letter in the mail today from the Social Security Office. Taylor, Jorden, & Erin all receive Medicaid and Social Security Income due to their disabilities. First off, let me tell you that I am very grateful for the assistance that I get every month from our Government. VERY GRATEFUL! However, at times it is so difficult to keep up with all of the guidelines, rules, & regulations.

Father Greg (Day 149 of 365)

Saturday, April 17th, 2010

The last two days I was able to attend the Nevada AEYC Conference here in Las Vegas through work. This is an Annual Early Childhood Conference that consists of various Keynote Speakers in the morning & evenings and classes and workshops are given throughout the day. Yesterday morning, I was lucky to have the opportunity to see and hear one of the Keynote Speakers, by the name of Father Greg Boyle of Homeboy Industries. Father Boyle has established Homeboy Industries “Jobs For The Future”, which he created in 1988 in an effort to address the problems and the extreme needs of youth who were involved in gangs. Father Greg and the community developed positive alternatives which include: an elementary school, a day care program, and legitimate employment for young people.
