Patience Gone- Be Back on Wednesday (Day 40 of 365)

Tuesday, December 29th, 2009

This is the second week that the kids and I are off from school and work on Winter Break. It is so amazing how being off can really alter our life. Everything seems to be out of wack. Of course, our schedule is off because school is out..which comes with more time on our hands….which tends to increase negative behaviors or arguing in the house…which calls for a grumpy Mom. Yes, as I write I have locked myself in my bedroom as I hear arguing, clanging of Erin’s walker down the hallway , and the Wii Rockstar game  is playing in the back ground. My patience is officially gone for the moment, hopefully just gone for a break and not the evening. However, if I hear one more child say “Mom, He/She won’t let me watch T.V” I am going to take the T.V and put it on the street. It is a pretty nice one, so you might want to jump in your car and start heading around the streets of Henderson, NV for a sweet deal!

Many people say, “Wow, you must have sooooo much patience!” They think this because not only do I have three kiddos with Cerebral Palsy, but I also work with 3-6 year olds with Autism. AND yes, I guess you can say that God has blessed me with patience…at times too much I may add. However, patience has taken it’s own Winter’s Break for a bit. When my patience leaves I start to become insecure about not being the “perfect Mom” . Oh, what I would give to be patient with my kiddos all of the time.

Do you have an odd place in your house where you go to get away from it all? I call it the “safe place”. Where for just a little bit, you can escape from the endless “Mom!!!”, “I need you!”, “So and So won’t leave me alone!”…(Should I go on?) banter. My sacred place is the bathroom. I go and sit on the lid of the toilet (I am not really using the bathroom, I just sit in there)…And read, get on my computer, or just sit quietly and not say a word. The kids usually leave me alone for about 25 mins…until I hear the front door, back door, garage door, and once I hear the closet door open, I know their next stop is the bathroom so my time is up! I managed to sit in my room tonight…and as I finish this sentence…Taylor said “Mom, I’m ready!” That means it is time to say goodnight to her. So with that, I say goodnight to you.

Calgon take me away!!!

Until next time,

E
