Goodbye to Mayberry (Day 1 of 365…entry 2)

So…if you don’t know already we have two dogs in our family. We have Shiloh, our 11 year-old Basset Hound who is blind (yes, blind)….and Mayberry our 1 1/2 year old Yellow Lab who I rescued a week after watching Marley and Me, To make it worse she is just like Marley!. Well, many of you are asking me…”What are you thinking?!” Well, the answer to that is…I wasn’t! I got caught up in the cuteness and coolness of having a Lab, and just wasn’t prepared to run her in the morning & afternoon like she needs, and to give the full attention that she deserves. Therefore, the kids and I discussed it and felt that if we were able to find her a better home, that is what we would do.

My good friend Harold who lives out in the country in New York was happy to take her. I am relieved because I know she will go to a fabulous owner who will run her, play with her, and give her the proper attention and training that she needs. She is in good hands! He came to Vegas and is taking her back with him. Well, I didn’t think Mayberry was leaving till tomorrow. However, he called me this morning and informed me that he was leaving today. I stalled him until the kids got home so that they could say goodbye.

Wow! I was not prepared for the tears that I was about to endure. Yes, a majority of those tears were mine! Taylor & Erin held it together…until we drove away when we were leaving for their weekly Horseback riding therapy. We pulled away from my home and Harold was putting May into the car and I look to my right (Taylor was in the passenger’s seat) to this pout that I hadn’t seen since she was 5 years of age) I looked in the rear view mirror and see Erin blinking her eyes rapidly to avoid the tears from coming. I then thought to myself “I am not getting the Mother of the Year Award” after this! I also thought…looks like we are going to Wal-Mart tomorrow to get each child a Beta fish.

Until next time,

E
